Twin Cities in PCMC — Pune
Pune, once a retirement paradise, is today a Tier I city. Apart from being an educational and manufacturing hub, it is home to many IT and ITeS companies, thus creating employment. The traffic — which is alarming — shows signs of growth, and infrastructure has not kept pace with real estate development. The metro routes are planned and work is at a rapid pace.
Pune is widely regarded as the second major “IT hub of India” and the top “automobile and manufacturing hub of India.” It is known as the ‘Oxford of the East’ with a wide range of educational institutions. The city has emerged as a major educational hub — research institutes of information technology, education, management and training attract students and professionals from India and overseas.
The twin cities of Pimpri-Chinchwad, governed by the PCMC, are located 15 km from Pune city. They are a thriving industrial belt that primarily consists of engineering and automobile industries. Pimpri-Chinchwad has contributed a lot to the fact that Pune is the second-largest industrial city in Maharashtra after Mumbai. Pune is very likely to become a smaller version of Mumbai because of the planned development.
PCMC has the potential to further house residential skyscrapers, large industrial units, IT parks, 5-star hotels, shopping and entertainment malls, educational institutes, and healthcare facilities — with well-planned roads, metro rail, flyovers, and a lot of greenery.
